Paris : Meert 16 Rue Elzevir, 75003 Paris, France

Full disclosure: I have a sweet tooth. I grew up with a dentist for a dad, so I was never really allowed to have sugar. We didn’t have sugary cereals in the house, and a real treat was sharing a candy bar with my sister. I am making up for the lack of sugar in my life now that I am an adult. When I see a candy shop, my eyes light up and I just have to pop in. I first saw Meert on Instagram a while back and had to make a trip to check out one of their stores. They have two locations in Paris: one in the Marais and one in St. Germain… and I have visited both. The two shops have similar designs and the vitage look will make you feel like you have entered a different era.

Meert is famous for their gaufres (waffles), and they don’t look like the waffles that we are used to in the States. They are filled with vanilla Madagascar crème in the middle and are bite size delights.

There are many other delicious treats that are offered at Meert including caramels, marshmallows, and chocolate. You will feel like you stepped back in time in this adorable candy shop. I love the attention to detail in this shop, seen in everything from the colors to the packaging.

St. Germain de Prés: 3 Rue Jacques Callot, 75006

  1. Fun fact : Meert is originally from the city of Lille (since 1761) (& their shop there is the most beautiful one in the city) and our famous former president Charles de Gaulle, who was born in Lille, also had a sweet tooth and he only went to Meert’s to eat waffles. And the traditional waffles aren’t filled with vanilla but with brown sugar – which is called "vergeoise" or "cassonade" in the North of France/Belgium.

    • This is amazing!!! I love that you know so much about Meert!! The waffles are delicious. I might need to take a field trip to visit the original shop some day. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!! xo
