Paris: Musée Jacquemart-André

I have been getting a lot of requests from readers for things to do in Paris after you have crossed all the tourist things off the list. Once you have seen the Louvre and the D’orsay I highly recommend visiting some of the other museums such as Musée Nissim de Camondo and Musée Jacquemart-André.

The Musée Jacquemart André is located in the eighth arrondisement not far from the Musée Nissim de Camondo so you could see them both in the same day if you were short on time or are escaping a rainy day in Paris. You can easily squeeze in a stroll through Parc Monceau before or after the museum visit. The ticket rate is 13.5 euros and is not included on the museum pass.

The museum is separated into 5 main parts:

The State Apartments, The Informal Apartments, The Winter Garden, The Italian Museum and The Private Apartments.

Each year Jacquemart and André would travel to Italy creating one of the finest collections of Italian Art in France. After the death of Jacquemart, André continued the tradition of bringing back Italian art and also traveled to the Orient. The mansion and the entire art collection was donated to the Institut de France as a museum and opened to the public in 1913.

You may recognize the museum from The Movie Gigi or The Count of Monte Cristo

My favorite part and one of the most recognizable features is the staircase.

  1. They have the loveliest gift shop as well! I bought 3 or 4 beautiful ceramic pieces while I visited that were more like "boutique" items than gift shop items. Often times I have a tendency to breeze through the gift shops, but if you pay attention many of the museums in Paris often have some lovely pieces.

    • Hi Kristen,

You are so right! They really do have a beautiful and unique gift shop. Thank you so much for reminding me. Do you have any other favorite spots in Paris? I head back next week I am always looking for new suggestions 🙂
