What to do in Paris in December

Christmas is all around the city from Holiday Markets to Ice Skating. For those of you who are traveling to Paris this December, here are some ideas of what to do and what to wear. Make sure to dress in layers. The weather is cold and damp this time of year. The big trend right now is long wool coats and blanket scarves.

Visit The Department Stores

Bon MarchƩ

Donā€™t miss the Christmas windows at Bon MarchĆ©. Inside, the store is filled with tiny Christmas trees from the ground floor to the top. Bon MarchĆ© has two areas for Christmas gifts. On the ground floor, there are small areas for different vendors to sell their individual products. You will also see this on the third floor along with Christmas ornaments, wreaths, and stockings.

Galleries Lafayette

The tree is the big attraction at Galleries Lafayette. You can take a walkway across at the top to see the tree from a unique perspective.

Donā€™t miss the new ice skating rink at the top of Galleries Lafayette now through the end of December. Plus, itā€™s FREE! The rink is open 10am – 8pm. Make sure to bring gloves when ice skating anywhere in the city or you will have to buy them.

BHV

BHV has a really cute market set up right outside the store with vin chaud (hot mulled wine), food, and small gift ideas. The holiday windows opened the night before I left Paris and I was so happy to see them all lit up.

The Grand Wheel in The Tuileries

Visit The Tuileries for the Christmas Market and The Grand Wheel.

Visit a New Neighborhood

I loved seeing my old neighborhood in Montmartre decked for Christmas. Each area of Paris has their own decorations and hang lights above the streets. The lights turn on at night add a little bit of extra Christmas cheer to the city.

Visit The Christmas Markets

My top choices would be:

The Christmas Chalet at The Ritz

St Germain des PrƩs Market

Tuileries Market

Cooking Class

Book a Class with La Cuisine Paris to make a bƻche de Noƫl. The price is 99 euros and classes are filling up quickly.

Stop by Angelina for Hot Chocolate. There are a few locations, one close to the Louvre is probably the most popular. Try the one on the Left Bank on Rue de Bac by Bon MarchƩ

A note about the strikes starting December 5th with no end date. This is what you need to know.

Make sure to take a walk to Place VendƓme to see the Christmas trees. This is one of my favorite places to enjoy during the holiday season. Once you see it in person, you will know why.

    • Hi Nena,

The 50% promotion might be over since it was a black Friday/Cyber Monday sale. I would grab them for 40% while you can. I love them!

  1. Thank you for this great list! I assume much of this will still be up when we arrive just after Christmas. I’m really looking forward to seeing Paris at this enchanting time. And I’ll be wearing my long wool coat and blanket scarves for sure. I just hope that the strikes subside for the holidays.

    • Hi Trinity,

Yes, much of it will be up just after Christmas. It was a dream to see everything and so magical. Stay warm in your long wool coat and blanket scarf. You will fit right in! I hope you have the best time.
