A Spring Weekend in London

In April, I took a quick impromptu trip to London and Paris to celebrate my birthday. There was little planning involved, I really didn’t know where I was staying in London until I got off the plane and I had no idea what I would do once I arrived. Sometimes, those are the best trips. I have to say, it took me several trips to London all in the Spring months no doubt to finally fall in love with this city.

I met up with a few friends over the weekend and just explored and left the camera in my bag. It hailed twice on my birthday so it wasn’t exactly the best shooting weather. I wore the same sweater all weekend because I didn’t anticipate the colder weather and I didn’t pack enough warm clothes. Paris did end up being warmer towards the end of the trip and it all worked out.

I did have a few hours of sunshine and warmth on Monday before catching the train to Paris. I set off on foot after breakfast and covered 10 miles just by getting lost in London. I had a SIM card that worked great but for some reason, google maps failed me for a few hours. It wouldn’t load and I had limited backup battery. I turned my phone off and just got lost as I first did in Paris all those years ago. I stumbled upon a street filled with cherry blossoms and my eyes lit up with excitement. I wish I could say more about where these images were shot. Since I had no proper map, I didn’t mark any of the locations. If you are a London Lover and can identify any of these streets or neighborhoods, please share and comment below.

One of my favorite discoveries, was stumbling upon this flower shop. It was arranged by color and of course my eye went straight towards the pink peonies.

When it comes to Where to Eat and Drink in London I can’t say much except for a few highlights.

I have never really loved Indian food but, Dishoom was recommended by a few people and this one surprised me in a good way.

Soho Grind for Coffee

La Fromagerie for a taste of France in London. I had a cheese/charcuterie board along with a glass of white wine.

You may remember a recent blog post when I mentioned that I have never seen a movie in Paris, but it has been on my list. I experienced a movie theater in London on a Sunday evening and I was impressed. I didn’t see the best movie but the atmosphere and popcorn made up for it.

My birthday dinner was at Cecconi’s in Mayfair and I even went back for a second night. There are a few locations around the world including one in Miami.

I really enjoyed my time in London and I hope I am back again soon to make new discoveries.

Having spent probably over 10 months in and around London vs. a couple in Paris I prefer London over Paris. Our daughter and family lived and she worked in London, St. John’s Wood, old Beatles stomping ground with Elton John, for five years.
