Frenchify Your Date Night

The weather has turned much colder in Chicago and being outside doesn’t happen as often as it used to. I spend most of my days inside wearing a sweater and jeans and cuddled under a blanket at night. Date nights out aren’t a reality right now, but you can still make them special at home.

I have thought of some fun ways to Frenchify Your Date Night at Home. If you have any ideas I didn’t cover, feel free to comment below and share.

Dress Up

This is an instant mood boost. Change out of your normal work from home clothes and dress up. You don’t have to worry about cold weather outside, coats, or snow boots. You can use this time to wear some of your favorite winter clothes. My go-to date night sweater is the Gaspard sweater from Sézane. I just bought it in black and I have it in pink.

Set the Mood

Screens down for the night and turn on a Spotify playlist. My Jazz playlist is a popular one and so is the Paris café playlist.

Menu

Takeout from a local French restaurant if you don’t feel like cooking. I love my local Mon Ami Gabi in Chicago. But if you are up for it, cooking together can make a great experience. Divide and conquer the meal from starters to dessert. A few of my favorite cookbooks right now include Ina Garten’s Modern Comfort and Half Baked Harvest. There are plenty of options for vegetarians and meat-eaters.

Set out a cheese plate and wine. You can pick up these items at Trader Joes if you are on a budget.

Take an Online Class

I am taking an online cheese class with La Cuisine in November. You can also do a cooking class with Sur La Table.

Watch a Movie

Make a Fire

This has been one of my favorite cold-weather activities at home. You can snuggle up under a blanket and listen to music and have a cocktail. Parisian fireplaces cannot be used, but if you are in other parts of France this is a possibility. My friends in Bordeaux have a lovely fireplace. If you don’t have a fireplace, you can burn a Feu de Bois candle at home which smells like a wood-burning fireplace.
